Florent & John

Saturday 28th October 2023

Florent
About Florent
Northern France native, world traveller and (according to Jonners) probably knows the English language better than most Brits. He is a Doctor, but not of the kind that would be helpful on a flight, amazing cook, knows every lyric to the Alanis Morissette songs from the 90s. Possesses the uncanny ability to put up with Jonners' nonsense. Doesn't take himself too seriously.

John
About John
Jonners / JT, born and raised in Suffolk. After last ditch attempts of getting to the Olympics with GB bobsleigh, and an extended stay in New Zealand and Australia, he came back to the city where he had studied HR. Proud owner of over 80 ties (and counting). Possesses the ability to put up with Florent's silliness. Probably does take himself too seriously though...

Some (hopefully) useful travel information

This isn't the recommended form of transport to travel to see us on the day. There is some pay and display parking very close to the venue. Street parking is restricted and monitored by over zealous traffic wardens.

Getting to Birmingham by car is relatively straightforward as numerous major motorways connect to the city. The M6 - Junction 6 brings you to the heart of the city and Digbeth is off the ring road - A4540. The M42  Junction 6 brings you into the city via the A45 and Birmingham International Airport.
The A14 (Suffolk travellers) and M1 (North East) connect with the M6.
Both the M5 (South West) and M40 (London) connect to the M42.

For our French guests: To drive to Birmingham from France, you will first need to take a ferry from Calais or Dunkerque to Dover. We recommend https://www.aferry.com/ for your booking.
The three major train stations in Brum are all located very close to each other in the city centre (New Street, Moor Street & Snow Hill).

Birmingham is accessible from most major cities in the UK from 1.5 - 3 hours, with most trains terminating at New Street. From New Street there is a large taxi rank which will be a very short journey to the venue.

For those travelling from the continent on Eurostar from Paris, Lille or Brussels, we recommend booking a train from Euston station for your final connection to Birmingham. It is the main line from London up to Birmingham with the fastest service taking under 1.5 hours. Moreover, Euston is only a short walk from St Pancras International, the Eurostar terminal, which will save you a trip on the Tube (for comparison it is about the same distance from Gare du Nord and Gare de l'Est in Paris).

A tram line (metro) is currently under construction, with stops in Digbeth not far from the venue. It may be completed by the time of the wedding - who knows!!
Probably the most convenient and usually the cheapest option is by Uber
Apple Store link for Uber
Google Play link for Uber

The Black Cabs (manufactured in Brum!) run from taxi ranks across the city and from the aforementioned train stations

A couple of other cab companies:
St Pauls Cars:  0121 233 3333
Birmingham Taxis: 0121 702 2000
As luck would have it, Birmingham Coach Station is in Digbeth, under half a mile from the venue. From there, National Express coaches run from all over the UK: https://www.nationalexpress.com/

Megabus also travel to Birmingham and pick up/drop off at the back of New Street Station: https://uk.megabus.com/
FlixBus also service Birmingham, with pick up/drop off in the city centre: https://www.flixbus.co.uk/
Birmingham International is on the outskirts of the city to the south west and is connected by the M42 Motorway and its own main line train station (15 min train into New Street).

Though not the largest of airports, many major European and international airlines fly direct.

Our tips for accommodation

The Bond is able to offer discounted rates (10%) with Premier Suites - located by Birmingham markets. The serviced apartments are 0.7 miles from the venue (15 min walk). You will need to provide a code to get the discount; let us and we'll send you the code.
Note:  Apparently you need to book more than one night in order to stay there. Searching for a single night might not return any results.

Location: Dean House, 38 Upper Dean St, Birmingham B5 4SG

You will find some hotel recommendations below suggested by GettingMarried and curated by us.

Finally, there are many Air BnBs available to book around Birmingham, cf. airbnb.com
These are very good options for a longer stay, and especially if you're travelling as a group. We would recommend you to stay in one of the following parts of town: City Centre, Jewellery Quarter, Edgbaston, Moseley.

Hotel Recommendations

We've picked a few hotels near to the venue for you. You can search for other hotels, get prices and check availability in the guest area.

The links below will take you to the GettingMarried booking website. We advise you to check other booking platforms (e.g. https://www.booking.com/, https://uk.hotels.com/, https://www.expedia.co.uk/) in case they have better fares and/or other hotel options.

We would also recommend using hotel price comparison websites such as https://www.trivago.co.uk/ and https://www.kayak.co.uk/.

For our Honeymoon

Firstly, all we want is for you to celebrate our marriage with us! Many of you have travelled a long way just to be with us, and for that we thank you from the bottom of our hearts!

As two gents in their late thirties / early forties, we don't have a gift list for you to select from. At our venerable age (!) we cherish life experiences more than earthly possessions. Hence, if you'd like to contribute to our honeymoon, we will happily raise a glass to you when we're there!

This is what this collection is for. You can contribute to it by clicking on the link at the bottom of the page. We are using Paypal for its convenience, but if you prefer a traditional bank transfer, get in touch with us and we'll send you the bank details of our joint wedding account.

Below are a few pictures of destinations we've been contemplating for our honeymoon :-)
